Arrested Development

I was overjoyed last week when I got an e-mail saying "Arrested Development: Season 3" was waiting for me at the library. This is a show that Shannon and I discovered accidentally a few months ago while channel-surfing. I became intrigued with it and requested Season 1 and absolutely loved it! We quickly moved on to Season 2 but had to wait quite a while for Season 3, unfortunately. But it's here and we've watching episodes every chance we get.

As a huge Seinfeld fan, it's quite a feat for me to say the following: I think "Arrested Development" is the best sitcom I've ever encountered. It's really that good. Excuse me, it really was that good. Apparently, FOX kept shoving it in poor time slots (against Monday Night Football; good call) and the ratings were consistently poor, despite the critical acclaim it received throughout its 3 seasons. What a waste. Most shows run out of steam and are mercifully put to rest, but AD never even came close to reaching that point. The writing and acting was just as great in Season 3 as in Season 1.

My only beef with the show is the same beef I have for most of the shows I've liked: as the series moved on, it became increasingly sexually immoral in its content. Now I'm not talking about nudity or actual scenes of sexual encounters; just more and more sex jokes spinning subjects like pre-marital sex and adultery in a positive light. Frustrating. Funny as hell, mind you, but still a bit frustrating that writers/producers have to constantly go down that path.

Just thought I would put in a plug for this awesome show. Have your library request it and give it a look-see; you won't be disappointed!
